My little ER collet set didn’t come with a spanner (thats a wrench to you non-Australians) to hold the shank. I didn’t like using a shifter on it, and I didn’t have a 30mm spanner in my tool box. Nor did I want to buy a spanner – even an el-cheapo one at that size might have been $20.
So…make your own. I took some scrap 6mm mild steel plate and flame cut one out, then cleaned it up on the mill, and gave it a coat of paint. I think the pics are pretty self explanatory.

As you can see I need more practice using the oxy-acetylene torch!
Roughly squared up the top edge so I could mill it clean
Took light cuts out of the mouth until I reached 30mm
And a coat of Machinery Gray to finish it off
